ATHENS, Ala. (WHNT) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and one Athens non-profit is reminding the community of the importance of patient care.

The Stacy Wolfe Breast Cancer Foundation supports people undergoing cancer treatment and their families. Stacy Wolfe experienced this first-hand when she was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. She founded the non-profit in 2022 to support people on a similar journey.

“She just didn’t want anybody to feel like they’re alone in their fight,” said Executive Director Karin Gross. “The foundation’s here to support them.”

After Wolfe died in 2024, her family took over, carrying out her mission to spread joy and comfort to people undergoing cancer treatment.

“Stacy had such an amazing support group,” Gross said. “That actually inspired her because she knew there were people out there that did not have that. She just wanted to make sure they knew that somebody was there and they cared and that they were not alone.”

Over the years, the Stacy Wolfe Foundation has spread joy to hundreds of people across the country, delivering gift bags and flowers and providing financial aid.

“I cannot imagine the burden that can be on people who are trying to just make ends meet because they’re missing work and they’re going to visits and chemo,” Gross said. “It’s a blessing to be able to help people and the testimonies we get, the responses we get, just make it all worth it.”

Each item in the gift bags were hand-picked by Stacy to help people going through chemotherapy, including warm socks, treats, lotion, and a blanket. You can place a gift bag or flower order on the Foundation’s website for free. They also accept donations.
