A group of hero ex-cops pulled a woman holding a 5-month-old baby from the East River on Sunday after the lady walked into the water carrying the child, the former officers told The Post.

“We heard a lot of screaming, and somebody yelled, ‘You guys gotta get over there!’ ” said retired cop Kevin O’Donnell, who used to helm the Community Affairs Office at the NYPD’s 109th Precinct in Queens.

“She was walking straight out into the water.”

O’Donnell was part of a gathering of retired NYPD officers helping at a Halloween event in Hermon Macneil Park in College Point when the apparent near-tragedy occurred just before noon.

As the group of ex-officers rushed toward the water and O’Donnell called 911, the 30-year-old woman was with the baby and up to her chest in the water, he said.

“Eventually, coming up from behind the woman, by then it was up to their neck in the water, both her and the baby she was holding, [one of the former cops] grabbed them both,” O’Donnell said.

“He’s a hero, he was the one that grabbed her and pulled her out,” O’Donnell said.

The ex-officer struggled to drag the woman to shore, and O’Donnell said there was a significant “language barrier” and that the woman caused a “commotion” as she got closer to land.

After EMS and the NYPD arrived, a group of first responders was able to further get the woman and the infant out of the water.

The 30-year-old woman was transported to North Shore University Hospital, while the baby went to New York Presbyterian, according the the NYPD.

It’s unclear as of yet if the woman had given birth to the baby or what her intentions were, the department said.
