Four people were killed Saturday when a helicopter crashed and caught fire in Quebec’s Montérégie region, authorities said.
The aircraft went down shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the Rang des Écossais sector of Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville after it had “experienced difficulties,” according to Agence QMI.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, rushed to the scene.
“According to the initial assessment, the four occupants died,” Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau told QMI.
Authorities had not publicly identified the victims by late Saturday afternoon.
Authorities had yet to identify the helicopter’s make, model, registration or operator — or disclose where the flight originated and where it was headed.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada had been notified, according to QMI.
No cause had been determined.
