A second suspect was arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of a man in Long Beach.
On Thursday, police announced Felipe Ramirez, 27, of Long Beach, was arrested in connection with the murder of Thomas Mello, 36, of Long Beach.
The first suspect, Jose Garcia-Linares, 25, was arrested earlier in the month.
On Oct. 12, Long Beach police responded to a shooting on the 200 block of Falcon Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m.
Officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The shooter had fled the scene before police arrived. Following an investigation, detectives identified Garcia-Linares as the suspected gunman. Police noted he was homeless at the time.
That same day, he was located near the 700 block of Orange Avenue where he was taken into custody.
Detectives later identified Ramirez as a second suspect involved. On Oct. 21, a search warrant was served in Huntington Beach, where Ramirez was located and arrested for murder. Both Ramirez and Garcia-Linares remain in custody without bail.
Investigators believe the incident began as an attempted robbery that escalated into a fatal shooting.
No further details, including whether the suspects and victim knew each other, were released. Detectives have presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
Anyone with additional information is urged to call Homicide Detectives Eric Thai and Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
