Lime is expanding its fleet of electric vehicles in Los Angeles with the launch of LimeGliders, a new two-wheeled transportation option that is essentially an e-bike with footrests instead of pedals.

The company announced Thursday that its Gliders are hitting the streets of L.A. following a successful pilot program in Atlanta, Seattle and Zurich.

“The Glider is designed for riders who may have difficulty pedaling for extended periods, as well as those looking to replace car trips with a more comfortable, two-wheeled option,” said Lime spokesman Hayden Harvey.

During the pilot, Lime found that riders frequently took Gliders on extended trips of more than three miles and 15 minutes, suggesting the seated design encourages longer rides, the company said.

Time recently named the LimeGlider one of the Best Inventions of 2025.

Lime, which began operating in 2018, currently has about 7,500 e-bikes and e-scooters in Los Angeles. The company recently told the City Council that Angelenos have taken more than 21.5 million trips and traveled “tens of millions of miles” on its vehicles.

Safety concerns persist, however.

A 2024 report from the Journal of the American Medical Association found that injuries from e-scooters rose from 8,566 in 2017 to 56,847 in 2022, while e-bike injuries increased from 751 to 23,493.

As part of its “Respect the Ride” campaign, Lime pledged to distribute more than 250,000 free helmets globally and launched an advertising effort to promote safe riding practices.
