TrustNordisk has picked up international sales rights on the Norwegian film Vampyr, based on Steffen Kverneland’s book of the same name, directed by Arild Fröhlich (Fatso), ahead of the AFM.

The film was produced by Norwegian production company Maipo Film. The film began principal photography today, October 22, and will be presented to buyers at AFM.

Pål Sverre Hagen (Kon-Tiki), Ane Dahl Torp (The Wave), Kristine Kujath Thorp (The Promised Land), Ingvild Holthe Bygdnes (The Tunnel), and Carl Martin Eggesbø (Skam) star in the film.

The official synopsis reads: A struggling author, who is obsessed with Edvard Munch, finds himself on the verge of madness when he’s dragged into a dangerous murder mystery that uncovers a horrifying truth about the world-famous painter, and potentially rewrites history as we know it.

“This is the kind of movie we have been waiting for and looking for – and finally it’s here,” Nicolai Korsgaard, Sales Director at TrustNordisk, said in a statement.

“Set in a universe of the world-famous painter Munch and based on Kverneland’s book, Vampyr will offer a cinematic, surprising, and captivating experience that pushes the boundaries of storytelling and with the best Norwegian cast. We see a big international potential for this highly entertaining idea and story, and look forward to presenting the film to the international market.”

Vampyr is directed by Arild Fröhlich and produced by Cornelia Boysen and Petter Onstad Løkke for Maipo Film in co-production with Unlimited Stories, Film I Väst, and Oslo Film Fund with support from The Norwegian Film Institute, The Swedish Film Institute, and Nordisk Film & TV Fond in collaboration with SVT. Local distribution by Nordisk Film Distribution. TrustNordisk handles international sales.
