Metrolink reminded customers on Tuesday that it will not be operating train service for the upcoming weekend on several heavily used lines due to planned maintenance and construction work.

“Trains will not run on the Orange County (OC), Inland Empire-Orange County (IEOC) or Ventura County (VC) lines, and alternate transportation will not be available throughout the weekend,” the commuter rail service posted on its website.

The San Juan Creek Bridge replacement near San Juan Capistrano is among several weekend projects for Metrolink. “The existing track and signal infrastructure on the more-than-100-year-old railroad bridge will be cut over to the newly constructed bridge,” Metrolink stated.

Work will begin Friday evening, requiring the cancellation of the southbound Orange County Line train 634, which was scheduled to depart Los Angeles Union Station at 9:40 p.m.

Metrolink said passengers of train 634 can use alternate bus service between the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo and Oceanside stations.

The work is part of a planned North County Transit District project, which will also impact Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service, Metrolink stated.

Beyond the San Juan Creek Bridge project, Metrolink is addressing maintenance along an overlapping stretch of the Orange County and Inland Empire/Orange County lines north of Oceanside.

On the Ventura County Line, switch tie replacement will stretch from Burbank to Van Nuys, Metrolink said.

Metrolink service on the 91/Perris Valley, Antelope Valley and San Bernardino lines will not be impacted.

Trains are expected to operate normally on all lines by Monday.

Service updates will be posted on metrolinktrains.com/alerts, or riders can go to Metrolik Alerts and subscribe.
