EXCLUSIVE: Blair Fetter is leaving Netflix after more than 13.5 years as a TV executive, most recently VP, Spectacle Series UCAN (U.S.- Canada). His last day will be tomorrow, Oct. 21.

Fetter’s departure had been in the works for several weeks, with him initiating the conversation, sources said. It comes two months after the exit of fellow Netflix veteran Peter Friedlander as Head of UCAN Scripted Series. He has since been named Head of Global TV for Amazon MGM Studios.

In only his second job in the business, Fetter joined Netflix in April 2012 as Director, Original Series, becoming part of the team that worked on the streamer’s inaugural slate of original series. He was promoted to VP in 2021 and has been focusing on spectacle projects, most recently under Nne Ebong, VP, Studio Scripted Series.

“We are incredibly grateful for Blair’s outstanding contributions over his 13 years at Netflix,” Ebong said. “His dedication brought to life some of our most iconic and culturally defining series, including Ozark, The Queen’s Gambit, BoJack Horseman, and 3 Body Problem. I have no doubt that his success will continue in whatever he chooses to do next.”

Other series Fetter worked on during his Netflix tenure include Godless, Big Mouth, Haunting of Hill House and the upcoming Death by Lightning. He also was involved in Stranger Things, Wednesday and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Before joining Netflix, Fetter worked on HBO’s Big Love, on which Friedlander was a producer and executive for Playtone. Fetter started as an assistant before being promoted to associate producer on the show. He made the move to Netflix six months after Friedlander had gotten there.

It is unclear whether the two could reunite at Amazon MGM Studios where Friedlander is yet to start assembling his executive team.
