A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Sherman Oaks early Sunday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash occurred around 12:05 a.m. on Van Nuys Boulevard, just south of Huston Street. Police said a black Tesla Model Y was heading south when it hit a pedestrian who was in the roadway.

The driver did not stop, identify themselves or render aid, as required by law, and was last seen continuing south on Van Nuys Boulevard, investigators said.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was only described as a 62-year-old white man from Ventura County. His name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

LAPD Valley Traffic Division detectives are investigating the case and asking for the public’s help identifying the driver involved.

City officials are reminding drivers that anyone involved in a crash must pull over safely, call emergency services and remain at the scene.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the suspect, through the city’s Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Valley Traffic Division Investigator Takishita at 818-644-8116. After hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247). Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or visiting LAPDOnline.org.
