ARAB, Ala. (WHNT) — For the first time in school history, the Scottsboro Wildcats are back-to-back region champions.
The Wildcats took down Arab 28-7 Friday night to secure the 2025 Class 5 Region 8 region championship.
Scottsboro started fast when Quincie Franklin returned the opening kick for a touchdown.
The region championship win caps off what was a wild two weeks for the Wildcats. Two weeks ago, the team was upset by the one-win Brewer Patriots before handing Guntersville its first loss of the year a week ago.
Coach Tyler Vann says his team has been through a lot en route to the region championship.
“We’ve won the area championships back-to-back in the 90s, but this is the first time since region play that Scottsboro’s won back to back,” Vann said. “Credit to this group of young men, they played really hard.”
Vann says his team’s ability to respond to the adversity showed their character.
“I think they answered the call. I tell them all the time that when you face adversity, that’s a sign of your character,” Vann said. “Everybody goes through trials in their life so that’s the main thing I was preaching.”
Scottsboro will get the week off before a massive regular season finale against defending 3A state champs, Mars Hill.
