The third-floor balcony of a house near the University of Cincinnati in Ohio collapsed on Friday night, injuring 10 people who fell to the ground, according to the authorities.
Chief Frank McKinley of the Cincinnati Fire Department said that one person was in critical condition, while the rest had less serious injuries. The people transported to area hospitals included university students, he said.
The balcony collapsed at about 10 p.m. Eastern time, the fire department said.
The house, on Stetson Street, is a few blocks away from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Some of the injured people were taken there, according to Lindsay Lomax, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department.
Mr. McKinley said there were indications that the weight of the individuals gathered on the balcony, possibly for a party, had been too heavy for the structure.
The university, its Greek life council and its housing office had been called on to assist the victims, Ms. Lomax said.
