Veteran Korean actors Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho will star in thriller Assassins, directed by Hur Jin-ho (A Normal Family).

Set in 1974, the film follows the attempted assassination of Korean president Park Chung-hee on August 15 that year — one of the most consequential days in the country’s history.

On track for a release in 2026, the film is produced by Hive Media Corp, the studio behind box office hits 12.12: The Day, Yadang: The Snitch, The Man Standing Next and Inside Men.

In Assassins, Park will play the role of a news editor who delves into unanswered questions surrounding the attempted assassination.

Park has starred in numerous films which have drawn critical acclaim, including Cannes’ Best Director prize-winning title Decision to Leave, Bong Joon-ho’s The Host and Hansan: Rising Dragon.

Assassins will also reunite Park and director Hur, after they previously worked together on period drama film The Last Princess.

Yoo will play the role of a police inspector who witnesses the incident. He has previously starred in Exhuma, A Taxi Driver and The King and the Clown.

Lee’s character in Assassins is a journalist who also witnesses the attempted assassination.

Lee is another familiar face in the film and television industry, having starred in popular domestic dramas Boys Over Flowers and City Hunter, as well as American drama Pachinko.

Assassins will be lensed by cinematographer Lee Mo-gae, with lighting director Lee Sung-hwan joining the team — both have worked together on hits like Exhuma, 12.12: The Day and Emergency Declaration.
