EXCLUSIVE: Two years on from its hit David Beckham documentary, Netflix has put its marketing might behind Victoria Beckham‘s series — and now the ratings verdict is in.
Turns out that David can comfortably claim bragging rights in the Beckham household, with the debut episode of his 2023 series scoring more than double the audience of Victoria Beckham.
Posh Spice’s three-part series premiered on October 9, and episode one was watched by nearly 1.7M viewers in its first week on Netflix in the UK, per official BARB figures supplied by overnights.tv.
The original Beckham access series, simply titled Beckham, debuted with 3.8M viewers, according to comparable ratings figures reported by Deadline at the time.
Victoria Beckham has enjoyed plenty of press in the UK, with newspapers picking over the revelations in the series, and Netflix executing marketing stunts, such as a takeover of London Underground’s Victoria line.
Episode two in the series generated an audience of nearly 1.3M in its first seven days on Netflix, while the finale had 1M viewers at the time of writing. These figures will grow over time, and Netflix has its own viewing metrics that will determine whether it considers the series a success.
Co-produced by Dorothy St Pictures and David Beckham‘s Studio 99, Victoria Beckham has beaten other UK original documentaries on Netflix this year, including Grenfell: Uncovered (1M viewers) and The Diamond Heist (1M).
It was, however, unable to match Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story, which premiered with 2.2M in May. Victoria Beckham has also fallen behind other Netflix access documentaries, such as At Home With The Furys, which debuted with 2.6M in 2023.
