A head-on collision in San Bernardino County killed two people and two dogs, officials confirmed Thursday.
The crash happened around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday at Baseline Street and McKinley Avenue, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said a gray Infiniti sedan traveling at a high rate of speed veered into opposing lanes of traffic and slammed head-on into a gray Mazda sedan. The impact sent debris into a third vehicle, a white Toyota sedan, causing minor damage.
Both occupants of the Infiniti — only identified as a 24-year-old man from Highland and a 21-year-old woman from San Bernardino — were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda, a 26-year-old Highland resident, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Two dogs riding in his vehicle were killed in the crash, and Animal Control officers responded to take custody of their remains.
Deputies from the department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate what led up to the collision.
