An Oxnard man was arrested last week after allegedly robbing a teenage boy at gunpoint in Camarillo, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 10 to the 200 block of Skyway Drive after receiving reports of a male juvenile seen walking without shoes, the agency said. When deputies arrived, they learned the 16-year-old victim had been robbed at gunpoint by a man who fled with several of the teen’s belongings.

Because of the violent nature of the crime, investigators with the Camarillo Special Enforcement Unit took over the case. Detectives identified the suspect as Diego Lopez, 18, of Oxnard.

Lopez’s vehicle was later located near South Ventura Road and West 5th Street in Oxnard, where deputies conducted a high-risk stop. Lopez was taken into custody without incident, while an adult female passenger was detained and later released, according to the sheriff’s office.

A search of Lopez’s vehicle revealed a loaded, unregistered .45-caliber handgun and property belonging to the victim, investigators said.

Lopez was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of multiple felony charges, including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and several firearm-related offenses.
