(NEXSTAR) — More than a month after a record-setting $1.79 billion Powerball jackpot was won by two tickets, another massive lottery jackpot is building.
No ticket matched the winning numbers — 12, 22, 49, 57 and 58, plus the gold Mega Ball 19 — drawn Tuesday, giving way for the Mega Millions jackpot to grow to an estimated $625 million ahead of Friday’s drawing.
With a cash value of $288.8 million, the current jackpot ranks as the 11th largest in the game’s history and the largest since a $1.27 billion prize was won by a ticket sold in California. It’s also the largest Mega Millions jackpot since the game was overhauled earlier this year.
To crack into the top 10, the jackpot needs to grow by about $23 million before Friday night’s drawing:
- $1.602 billion: Aug. 8, 2023; Florida
- $1.537 billion: Oct. 23, 2018; South Carolina
- $1.348 billion: Jan. 13, 2023; Maine
- $1.337 billion: July 29, 2022; Illinois
- $1.269 billion: Dec. 27, 2024; California
- $1.128 billion: March 26, 2024; New Jersey
- $1.050 billion: Jan. 22, 2021; Michigan
- $810 million: Sept. 10, 2024; Texas
- $656 million: Mar. 30, 2012; Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland
- $648 million: Dec. 17, 2013; California and Georgia
There have been four other Mega Millions jackpots this year: a $112 million prize hit in January, a $349 million payout won in March, a $112 million prize won a few weeks later, and a $348 million pot won in June.
If you’re ready to try your luck — your odds are slim, though they did improve with the game’s overhaul earlier this year — the next Mega Millions drawing is set for 11 p.m. ET on Friday. Tickets are $5 each and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
