A quartet of fall season arrivals began previews on Broadway last week, helping to boost the total 31-show gross to $39,416,736, a 25% jump over the previous week when there were 27 shows.
And as if to show the newcomers what success looks like, Hamilton, in its 10th year on Broadway, scored its best-ever weekly gross, taking in a massive $4,042,906. The Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, always a top seller, has been reinvigorated lately with the limited engagement return of original cast member Leslie Odom, Jr. (his run ends November 26).
Among the newcomers, two were sell-outs: The Queen of Versailles, starring Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham, took in $775,752 for four previews at the St. James (opening night is November 9); and Ragtime, scoring $1,122,255 at Lincoln Center’s Vivian Beaumont (opening October 16).
Also snaring audiences was the return Broadway engagement of Beetlejuice, filling 93% of seats at the Palace, with a take of $1,163,235 for seven performances (since it’s a return, the production skipped the preview period).
Two acclaimed plays began previews during the week ending October 12, both still finding their legs. Liberation filled 60% of seats at the James Earl Jones for a seven-preview take of $196,192 (opening night is October 28). Little Bear Ridge Road began previews at the Booth, with attendance at 83% of capacity and a gross of $371,635 (opening night is October 30). Word of mouth and reviews should impact these numbers in coming weeks.
After Hamilton, the week’s top earners were Wicked ($2,542,300), The Lion King ($2,272,236), Waiting For Godot ($1,823,751) and Art ($1,764,317, for a nine-performance week).
Sell-outs (or within a tiny fraction) for the week were Art, Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her (a year into its run, the musical had an impressive best-ever gross of $1,608,670), Hadestown, Hamilton, Just In Time, Mamma Mia!, Maybe Happy Ending, Oh, Mary!, Ragtime, The Lion King, The Queen of Versailles, Waiting For Godot and Wicked. The Outsiders came close at 99%.
Some other notable numbers:
- Aladdin was up $255,513 over the previous week, with a gross of $1,378,523;
- Hadestown was up $253,889 to $1,048,751;
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child surged by $338,116 to $1,278,501;
- Just In Time starring Jonathan Groff had another standing room only week, with attendance at 104% of capacity at Circle in the Square and a gross of $1,361,779.
Top average ticket prices for the week were Hamilton ($376.01); Just In Time ($238.32); and Waiting For Godot ($234.05). Average price for all 31 shows was $142.49.
Total attendance for the week ending October 12 (which included the Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day weekend) was 276,625, an 18% increase over the previous week and 9% boost over last year at this time.
Season to date, Broadway, in the 20th week of the 2025-26 season, has grossed $680,417,662, up about 11% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 5,291,969 up 6%.
