President Trump has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington for discussions this week, fresh off the high of ending the war in Gaza, The Post can confirm.

Ukrainian Ambassador to the US Olha Stefanishyna confirmed that Zelensky received an “official invitation for the president of Ukraine to come to the United States for a meeting,” the embassy exclusively told The Post on Monday.

While the embassy did not reveal the day of the meeting or when the invitation was given, multiple media outlets reported it would occur on Friday.

It comes after Zelensky and Trump held back-to-back calls on Saturday and Sunday, the Ukrainian president said in a post to X on Monday.

“Yesterday, we agreed on a set of topics to discuss today, and we covered all the aspects of the situation: defense of life in our country, strengthening our capabilities — in air defense, resilience, and long-range capabilities,” Zelensky said of the conversations. “We also discussed many details related to the energy sector.”

Zelensky in an interview with Fox News on Sunday also implored to send his nation long-range Tomahawk missiles that could hit military targets deep inside Russia.

Ukraine’s president also said on “The Sunday Briefing” that the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas has given his country “hope” — after Trump told him “really that [the] Ukraine [war] is more difficult [to end], that it’s a bigger war,”

“We need two things, I think, to make real pressure on Putin,” Zelensky added. “I said to him that we need real air defense. And the second point is to have long weapons, long-distance capabilities.”

Ukraine has been targeting Russia’s energy section — which experts say is Moscow’s main source of funding for its war on Kyiv. The strikes have worked, ramping up the pressure on the Russian economy.

Trump has also played a leading role in clamping down on the Kremlin’s war funding, pressing European leaders to stop purchasing Russian oil.

The Kremlin has also ramped up attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and Kyiv is interested in finding ways to purchase energy from the US to supplement their supply ahead of a brutally cold winter, officials have told The Post.

The meeting would be the first time Trump and Zelensky meet in person since their sit-down at the United Nations General Assembly last month. After that meeting, Trump posted about his new understanding of the Ukraine war, calling Russian President Vladimir Putin a “paper Tiger.”

“President Trump is well informed about everything that is happening,” Zelensky said. “We agreed to continue our dialogue, and our teams are doing their preparations. Thank you!”

Zelensky last met Trump at the White House on Aug. 18, 2025.
