Germany sets aside millions of euros for Gaza reconstruction
is preparing to pledge at least €100 million ($116 million) to , German Development Minister Reem Alabali-Radovan said Sunday. The exact amount is yet to be determined, with Alabali-Radovan only saying that the figure would be a three-digit number of millions.
Some aid to Gaza, which had been frozen following the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, is now available again, Alabali-Radovan told Germany’s public broadcaster ARD.
Much of Gaza, including hospitals and schools, has been destroyed during almost two years of fighting between Israel and Hamas. The UN development agency, UNDP, has said Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has caused the worst destruction of housing a region has witnessed since World War II.
Germany has been a strong supporter of Israel during its military campaign in Gaza, authorizing arms exports worth almost half a billion euros between October 7, 2023, and May 13, 2025, according to the German Ministry of Economics.
Alabali-Radovan emphasized that the total cost of Gaza’s reconstruction will be extremely high and Germany cannot foot the bill alone. “We must achieve this together as part of the international community,” she said.
Along with , Germany plans to invite participants to a reconstruction conference and it “will take place in the coming weeks,” the minister said, adding that she expects further details in the coming days.
