PHOENIX — From Phoenix receiving daily record rainfall over the wet weekend to Kid Rock stepping into Cody Johnson’s place in the Hondo Rodeo Fest concert lineup, here are some of the top Arizona news stories from Oct. 10-12.

Phoenix receives daily record rainfall in first 4 hours as wet weekend continues

It only took about four hours on Saturday for Phoenix to receive a record amount of rain for Oct. 11, according to the National Weather Service.

The previous daily record of 0.31 inches, which was set in 1928, was unofficially surpassed at 4:05 a.m., per NWS readings from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

As of around 12:30 p.m., Phoenix had more than doubled that total (0.70).

Valley expected to dry out before possible strong thunderstorms rest of weekend

The Valley is expected to dry out and might even get some sun Saturday afternoon before strong thunderstorms are possible overnight headed into Sunday.

Although rainfall was light to moderate Friday night into Saturday morning, it only took four hours on Saturday for Phoenix to receive a record amount of rain for Oct. 11.

“Rainfall accumulations for the most part have been ranging between a quarter of an inch in some spots to up to an inch in some spots, but most areas have been between (0.25 to 0.75 inches) with isolated higher amounts up to an inch in some areas,” Meteorologist Gabriel Lojero with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Saturday morning.

Arizona Gov. Hobbs orders flags to fly at half-staff to honor firefighter killed in motorcycle crash

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has ordered state government buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Sunday.

Hobbs issued the edict for the interment of firefighter EMT Glenn Collins, who was killed in a motorcycle crash on his way to work in eastern Arizona last week.

The order covers only state buildings, but individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to lower their flags as a tribute, too.

Dozens of flight delays reported at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport

Dozens of flight delays were reported Friday at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport as staffing issues continue hampering air travel during the federal government shutdown.

As of around 12:30 p.m., the Sky Harbor website showed delays of varying lengths for over 85 departures throughout the day.

At the same time, flight-tracking website FlightAware was showing a total of over 190 delays for departures and arrivals at the Phoenix hub.

Kid Rock replaces Cody Johnson in Hondo Rodeo Fest concert lineup at Chase Field

The concert lineup for next month’s Hondo Rodeo Fest at Chase Field has a new headline act.

Rapper-singer-songwriter Kid Rock is stepping up to the plate at the downtown Phoenix home of the Arizona Diamondbacks after country star Cody Johnson withdrew for health reasons.

Kid Rock is taking Johnson’s spot on Saturday, Nov. 8, the second night the three-day rodeo/music event. Johnson canceled his appearance this week after undergoing emergency surgery for a ruptured eardrum.
