PHOENIX — An allegedly armed man was killed in a shooting involving officers with the Phoenix Police Department on Saturday night.
According to the Phoenix police, officers responded to an apartment complex in the area of 83rd Avenue and Indian School Road for reports of a fight around 8:05 p.m.
Dispatchers reportedly informed police that the fight was between a man and a woman, and the man was armed with a knife.
What led to the deadly shooting involving Phoenix police?
Police said when officers arrived, the man was holding the woman on the ground by the apartment building.
In addition, the man had a knife to the woman’s throat, according to Phoenix police.
Officers gave the man multiple commands to stop, but he did not comply which is when the shooting allegedly occurred.
After the shooting, an officer pulled the woman away from the man to safety, police said.
The Phoenix Fire Department was called and reportedly pronounced the man dead on the scene.
No officers or community members were injured in the incident.
According to the department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division will be investigating the shooting.
