A man was arrested for attempted homicide after a victim was found with a gunshot wound in Riverside County.
The suspect was identified as Jesse Romero, 27, of Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sept. 27, deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon near Bob Hope Drive and Country Club Drive in Rancho Mirage at around 1 a.m.
Witnesses found the victim with a gunshot wound and were attempting to provide medical aid when the suspect approached the victim and assaulted them a second time.
Both the victim and suspect then fled from the area, witnesses said.
Deputies later found the victim in a nearby community and transported them to a local hospital in stable condition.
Following an investigation, detectives identified Romero as the primary suspect. On Oct. 10, authorities located him in the 28000 block of Landau Boulevard in Cathedral City, where he was taken into custody.
Romero was arrested for attempted homicide and booked at the John Benoit Detention Center. No further details, including the victim’s identity, a motive, or whether the suspect and victim were known to each other, were released.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Investigator Hickok at the Palm Desert Station at 760-836-1600.
