Detectives arrested a Thousand Oaks suspect in a horrific kidnapping case after a woman allegedly escaped his residence earlier this week, officials say.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said it dispatched patrol deputies to the 1200 block of Thousand Oaks Boulevard on Oct. 7 for reports of a female victim who had recently been beaten and sexually assaulted.

Detectives identified the suspect as 45-year-old Nathan Christian Toft of Thousand Oaks “through interviews and other investigative techniques,” the sheriff’s office said.

“It was discovered that Nathan Toft had tied up the victim and confined her by force inside his home in the 100 block of Helecho Court,” officials stated. “Toft then tortured the victim and sexually assaulted her before the victim was able to escape the residence and call 911.”

Authorities did not initially expand on the details, such as how long the woman was held for or if she was found with injuries, but said detectives then obtained a search warrant for Toft’s home.

Law enforcement served the search warrant and found Toft inside his home, and subsequently arrested him for felony violations such as kidnapping, false imprisonment, domestic violence, criminal threats, torture, rape and other sexual assault related charges.

Deputies transported and booked Toft at the Pre-trial Detention Facility in Ventura, with his bail set at $1 million.

“Due to the nature of this investigation, detectives believe there may be additional witnesses,” added the sheriff’s office.

Officials encourage anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Thousand Oaks Sexual Assault Unit, Detective N. Adrianzen at 805-371-8397 or [email protected]. Callers can also remain anonymous by contacting Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
