HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — For News 19’s student of the week, our Ellie Byrd headed over to Hartselle high school to surprise senior Hudson Bone.
We have had many talented students so far this semester, but Hudson truly stands out among the rest!
When you walk the halls of Hartselle High School, there’s one student who stands head and shoulders above the rest — and not just because of his height. Hudson Bone, whose voice is helping students start their day on a high note.
“He’s just such a great student, such a high achiever, and just a good kid. He’s always willing to go above and beyond to make sure that things are right. So, again, we’re blessed with great students already. And, you know, if everyone was just like him, we would be, you know, just be as good or even better than what we are right now,” said Hartselle High School Principal Dr. Brad Cooper.
He’s the first person you hear when your school day begins… and chances are, you’re smiling before the announcements are even over.
“I was super surprised when Doctor Cooper walked to the door. It was kind of like, what is this moment? And then walking in hearing my name, that was really cool. So, it was an awesome I appreciate it,” said Hudson Bone.
Music comes naturally to Hudson. He’s in band, choir, and even helps conduct in class — a leader both on and off the stage.
No matter where he goes, Hudson’s light shines. His teachers say when you have a class with Hudson, you always leave feeling better than when you walked in.
“I think it’s just all the things I’ve been involved in and everything I’m involved in, I try and, kind of put myself in a leadership position, gets in everybody, make friends with everybody. And growing up, that’s kind of just what happens at Hartselle. And being in art programs here. So that’s really made available to me, by my directors and things like that,” said Hudson Bone.
“So, I’m in our marching band, and our band is a whole Hartselle. I’m in our chorus, involved in our drama department, I stage manage for a lot of our productions. I’m also part of our key club, which volunteers a lot around our community. I’m the president for our key club, so that’s kind of some of my main things,” said Hudson Bone.
As for what’s next, Hudson says he hopes to share that same joy for years to come, as a music teacher.
“My mom, she started out as a music major and then transferred into family and consumer sciences. She taught culinary, but now she’s an administrator at our central office and just seeing her interact with kids while also having her love for music and her life and then passing that on down to me. I think that really inspired me for this,” said Hudson Bone.
Wherever Hudson goes, one thing’s for sure, the world will be lucky to have his tune.
He has some words of encouragement to any young kids out there today.
“I say take advantage of all the opportunities given to you. I have been given a lot of opportunities throughout my high school career and before that, and being able to do all these things and go to different places has, I think, really rounded me out as a person, and my personality. And so I just say, take advantage of all those because you’ll have them, they’ll come to you.”
From the halls of Hartselle High to wherever life takes him next, Hudson Bone is already making beautiful music.
