On July 25, Lauren Chan, the model, and Hayley Kosan, a filmmaker, invited 20 friends to a suite at Barclays Center in Brooklyn for a New York Liberty women’s basketball game for a joint bachelorette party.
There was a spread of hot dogs, chicken fingers and pizza. Guests were helping themselves to margaritas. Throughout the game, the crew, who came from as far away as Los Angeles and Toronto, danced, drank, made toasts and cheered.
“Every so often we remembered to watch a minute of the game,” said Ms. Chan, 35, who lives with her now-wife in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. (The two were legally married in August, but will hold a celebration in Manhattan later this month.) “Ellie the Elephant did a Lady Gaga halftime show that was, ‘Oh my God,’” she added, referring to the team’s mascot.
The couple couldn’t think of a better place to stage their bachelorette party. “We both grew up playing basketball, and we love to still play to this day,” said Ms. Kosan, 36. “We live close to Barclays, so going to the Liberty games is always very fun.”
They chose the July 25 game, in particular, because the New York Liberty, Ms. Chan’s favorite team, was playing the Phoenix Mercury, Ms. Kosan’s. (The home team won.)
