LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — An Underwood Elementary School student was removed from campus on Wednesday after school officials said the child brought a BB gun and a knife.
The school’s principal, Brad Chaney, and the Lauderdale County Schools Superintendent, Jerry Hill, posted a statement regarding the incident and removal of the student on social media.
The statement said administrators at Underwood Elementary were made aware of a student who brought a BB gun and a knife onto campus.
In the statement, they say immediate and appropriate actions were taken to ensure student and staff safety, including the removal of the student and items.
An investigation began, and they said it was determined the items weren’t brought to school as a threat.
“There was no indication of harmful intent,” school officials added.

“On October 8, 2025, Underwood Elementary administrators were made aware of a student who brought a BB gun and a knife onto campus. Immediate and appropriate action was taken to ensure the safety of all students and staff, including the removal of both the student and the items in question.Following a thorough investigation, it was determined that the item was not brought to school as a threat, and no threats-verbal or written-were made at any time. There was no indication of harmful intent.The safety and security of our campuses remain a top priority for the Board and all school personnel. We are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for every student.We commend the Underwood Elementary administration for their prompt and diligent response to this situation.”
