Criss-cross, applesauce.
A semi-truck rolled over and spilled tens of thousands of pounds of applesauce onto an Illinois Interstate Monday morning in a wild scene that backed up traffic for hours, according to reports and photos.
The semi hauling the fruity goods overturned around 4:38 a.m. at milepost 76 on I-57, Illinois State Police told WCIA.
The single-vehicle crash caused 46,000 pounds of applesauce — or the equivalent of 184,000 4-ounce applesauce containers — to flood out onto the Interstate in golden pools, according to photos obtained by the outlet.
No injuries were reported during the saucy blunder, authorities said.
Two lanes of I-57 remained closed until 8:45 a.m., state police added.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
