‘Godspeed, my sissy’: Dolly Parton’s sister asks for prayers amid icon’s health scare

Freida Parton, the sister of legendary singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, took to social media on Tuesday to ask the public for prayers as the country music icon deals with an undisclosed health battle.

“I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly. Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately,” Freida Parton wrote on Facebook. “I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been lead to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me.”

The public plea from Freida Parton, one of Dolly’s 11 total siblings, comes weeks after the wordsmith behind touchstone classics like “I Will Always Love You” and “Jolene” postponed her upcoming Las Vegas residency due to ongoing health issues.

Dolly Parton, 79, was in good spirits late last month when she informed her fans of the decision to postpone her Vegas residency, saying she was in need of several procedures, which she joked were part of her “100,000-mile checkup.”

“I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you,” she wrote.

The six-show Vegas residency was slated to take place at Caesars Palace in December, and would’ve been the songstress’ first concert series in nearly a decade.

While little has been revealed about the nature of Dolly Parton’s ongoing medical battle, her sister urged the public to join in a prayer for recovery and continued health, writing, “she’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine.”

“Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you,” the post concluded.
