The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that took place on a blind curve along Pacific Coast Highway.
Information obtained by CHP, including witness statements, indicates a 35-year-old woman from Port Hueneme was riding a 2002 Harley-Davidson northbound on PCH south of Mugu Rock just before 5:45 p.m. Monday. At the same time, a 47-year-old L.A. man was driving a 2020 Chevy Silverado southbound on PCH, according to CHP.
“For reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle crossed over the solid double-yellow center lines and entered the southbound lane around a blind curve, where it collided head-on with the [truck],” a CHP media release states. “The impact caused the rider to be ejected into the roadway.”
First responders were dispatched to the area within minutes; however, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name was not immediately disclosed.
The driver of the Chevy truck – and his two passengers – were uninjured.
“Alcohol may have been a factor in this collision,” CHP said, noting that toxicology results are pending. It was not immediately clear which of the motorists involved may have been intoxicated.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are being investigated by CHP’s Ventura Area Office. Anyone with information should contact Officer Greg Jones: 805-662-6240.
The part of PCH where the crash occurred was closed for roughly three-and-a-half hours before being reopened around 9:15 p.m. Monday.
Monday’s incident was the second crash in three days in the area left a female motorcyclist dead. On Saturday night, a 20-year-old woman from Camarillo was killed after she lost control of her bike, crashed and was run over on the 101 Freeway in Ventura.
