LeBron James has finally revealed “the decision of all decisions.”
King James revealed a partnership with Hennessey.
“The Decision has been made. Cheers to year 23,” the caption said on Instagram.
Yes, all that anxiety was to reveal a partnership with the liquor brand.
Since Monday, the sports legend has had the sports world in a frenzy after he posted a cryptic nine-second video on Instagram, which teased “#TheSecondDecision.”
It comes 15 years after his first major decision, which was when he revealed he would be leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers and taking his “talents to South Beach” and playing for the Miami Heat for the 2010-2011 season. ESPN televised that announcement. At the time, he was an unrestricted free agent who had played all seven of his seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In Monday’s video, people noted he’s wearing the same outfit in the 2025 version of the decision as he did 15 years earlier.
Knee-jerk reactions to the video were that the 40-year-old was looking to retire. The upcoming 2025-2026 NBA season will be his 23rd with the league, and he’s the league’s all-time leading scorer.
During the Lakers’ Media Week last week, the four-time NBA champion said he was excited about the upcoming season, which didn’t sound like someone who was going to retire.
Sports Illustrated pointed out that James appeared in an Amazon Prime ad earlier this year, but noticed there’s no #ad disclaimer on his post.
Others noted that Oct. 7 is National Taco Day, which falls on a Tuesday. The 21-time NBA All-Star famously declared “Taco Tuesday” at his home on social media, and at one point, he attempted to trademark the term, but his application was denied.
A user on Threads said, “For those wondering what Lebron James’ ‘Second Decision’ announcement is about, Tuesday October 7th (tomorrow) is National Taco Day. Lebron James has a ‘Taco Tuesday’ partnership with Taco Bell. Taco Bell is running a special tomorrow for $1 off tacos and $5 off party packs. Lebron’s ‘decision’ will just be an ad for that.”
