Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck posed together on the red carpet during the premiere of her new musical film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, which the actor also executive produced. The exes showed tenderness during their on-camera reunion, just hours after Lopez dedicate a few words of thanks to Affleck as a guest on NBC’s Today.
“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” Today host Craig Melvin had said to Lopez. Lopez interrupted him: “There you go! Look at this guy!” she said with a laugh, looking at the audience.
“And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going,” she continued. Throughout the interview she explained that the project helped her to detach from the complicated situation she found herself in. “It’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives,” she shared. “Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well.” What’s more, said Lopez, “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made. And I will always give him that credit.”
When introducing the film, Affleck had some affectionate words for both its film’s crew, and his ex-wife. “My goal was to empower great artists and tell moving stories and great opportunities for these kinds of great stories to be told and to work with the best directors in the world and the best material,” the Oscar winner said. “In this movie, we did all that and it’s an honor to be here. Jennifer, you’re incredible.”
