TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (WHNT) — It’s been six weeks since 15-year-old August Borden suffered severe injuries while on school grounds at Deshler High School.

Family, friends and people from the Shoals community continue to express their support for Borden, even anonymously, through a large digital billboard that stands tall on State Route 13 in Colbert County.

Mary Margaret Holmes, a Deshler High School parent, is also good friends with August’s family, and she told News 19 what the billboard means to her.

“It just shows that they have community support, which is so, so important, and as a friend of the family, and knowing August and knowing what a fantastic kid he is, that just to me is just wonderful,” Holmes said.

The billboard was paid for and put up anonymously.

“That just shows us that there are people, even anonymous people, because we don’t know, I don’t know who did it, that love the family and that they want a resolution, which is what we all want is a good resolution and healing to occur,” Holmes said.

Holmes said August is doing a lot better.

Colbert County officials recused themselves from the investigation into Borden’s injuries. The Madison County DA’s office and the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Office are handling it.
