(NewsNation) — Ike Turner Jr., son of rock n’ roll superstar Tina Turner, has died from kidney failure. He was 67.

Jacqueline Bullock, Tina Turner’s niece, told TMZ that Turner Jr. died on Saturday in Los Angeles, one day after his birthday, after suffering from severe heart issues for years.

His health has reportedly been in decline following a stroke in September, according to Bullock.

According to USA Today, singer Afida Turner, the wife of Turner Jr.’s late half-brother Ronnie Turner, shared the news Sunday on Instagram.

“Rest in peace Ike Jr.,” she wrote, calling him an “amazing brother in law.”

Turner Jr. was born in 1958 to Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, but he was adopted by Tina Turner during her marriage to Turner Sr.

Like his parents, Turner Jr. got into music at a young age, learning to play instruments and working as Tina Turner’s sound engineer, according to Newsweek.

His death comes two years after Tina Turner died on May 24, 2023, at age 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich. Her Grammy-winning singing career included the hit songs “Nutbush City Limits,” “Proud Mary,” “Private Dancer,” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero,” from the “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” soundtrack. Her movie credits also include “Tommy” and “Last Action Hero.”

Tina Turner teamed with husband Ike Turner Sr. for hit records and live shows in the 1960s and ’70s. She survived her troubled marriage to succeed in middle age with the chart-topping “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” released in 1984.

Turner Sr. died on Dec. 12, 2007.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
