Authorities say a man was fatally struck by a northbound train near the Downtown Burbank Metrolink Station late Friday night.

Officers and paramedics responded around 10:15 p.m. to the tracks near 201 North Front Street after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a train. When first responders arrived, they found a man lying next to the tracks with severe injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The conductor of the train remained on-site and spoke with investigators, police said. Neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be factors for the conductor, according to the Burbank Police Department’s preliminary findings.

After reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, investigators determined that the man had intentionally placed himself on the tracks as the train approached. Despite efforts to stop, the train was unable to avoid the collision, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

The man has not yet been publicly identified. Police said they are working with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to confirm his identity and notify next of kin.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Burbank Police Investigations Division at 818-238-3210.
