KTLA meteorologist Kacey Montoya was not in studio as usual on Sunday morning, as she was out in Dana Point hosting the 5th annual Fix’n Fidos Golf Tournament.
Kacey’s Fix’n Fidos foundation raises money for spay and neuter surgeries for low-income Southern California residents who may want to adopt a shelter pet but don’t want any offspring. The foundation also helps with unexpected vet bills so that owners don’t have to surrender their animals due to lack of funds.
The event, set up at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, had several sponsors, including dog stroller manufacturer Tavo, local auto dealership South County Lexus Mission Viejo and sneaker giant Skechers. Also in attendance were many supporters, golfers, neighbors and members of the KTLA family, including sports reporter David Pingalore, fellow meteorologist Vera Jimenez, anchors Glen Walker and Frank Buckley and KTLA jack-of-all-trades Kirk Hawkins.
“[We are] helping animals, making a difference, [and celebrating] a beautiful day with great people,” Kirk said.
“I keep coming back because I love dogs and crazy dog people like you,” Vera added, referring to Kacey. “I’m happy to support, plus we get to meet a lot of fantastic KTLA viewers.”
“It’s amazing what you’ve grown this into,” Glen told Kacey. “I’ve seen you work hard to build this up, and to have this event at a championship links course along the Pacific Ocean, you can’t do any better than that.”
