Mark Sanchez, the former N.F.L. quarterback who is a Fox Sports commentator, was arrested on Saturday after being injured in a stabbing in downtown Indianapolis that left him hospitalized in stable condition, according to the police.

Mr. Sanchez was arrested in the hospital and charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, the police said. All of the charges are misdemeanors, the police said.

He remained in the hospital and has not been booked, the police said. Additional details about what led up to the episode were not available.

Earlier on Saturday, in response to an inquiry about how Mr. Sanchez was injured, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department referred to a statement about a stabbing that occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday in which two men were injured.

One man suffered lacerations and the other had what appeared to be stab wounds, the statement said.

“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence,” the statement said, adding that the men were not from Indianapolis. The police said that the altercation had been captured on video.

Representatives for Mr. Sanchez and Fox Sports did not immediately respond to requests for comment on his arrest on Saturday.

Before Mr. Sanchez was arrested, Fox Sports said on social media that it was grateful to the medical team that was treating him and that he was in stable condition.

Mr. Sanchez, 38, was first drafted into the N.F.L. as a quarterback for the New York Jets in 2009. He was with the Jets for five years but only played for four seasons. His last year he was on the bench the whole season because of an injury.

He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. He remained in the N.F.L. for a total of 10 seasons before retiring in 2019 to become a football analyst.

Mr. Sanchez appeared to be in Indianapolis ahead of the broadcast of the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday afternoon, as part of his role as an analyst for the network.

Mr. Sanchez was set to call Sunday’s game alongside Chris Myers, a sportscaster for Fox Sports.
