Mark Sanchez, the former N.F.L. quarterback who is a Fox Sports commentator, was injured in a stabbing in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday and was hospitalized in stable condition, according to Fox Sports and the police.

In response to an inquiry about Mr. Sanchez being injured, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department referred to a statement about a stabbing that occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday in which two men were injured.

One man suffered lacerations and the other had what appeared to be stab wounds, the statement said.

“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence,” the statement said, adding that neither of the men were from Indianapolis.

Neither have been arrested or charged with a crime, the police said. They declined to identify either of the men.

The police said that the altercation had been captured on video and that the case would be presented to prosecutors, after which charges could be filed.

Representatives for Mr. Sanchez did not immediately respond to questions on Saturday.

Mr. Sanchez, 38, was first drafted into the N.F.L. as a quarterback for the New York Jets in 2009. He was with the Jets for five years but only played for four seasons. His last year he was on the bench the whole season because of an injury.

He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. He remained in the N.F.L. for a total of 10 seasons before retiring in 2019 to become a football analyst.

Mr. Sanchez appeared to be in Indianapolis ahead of the broadcast of the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday afternoon, as part of his role as an analyst for the network.

Mr. Sanchez was set to call Sunday’s game alongside Chris Myers, a sportscaster for Fox Sports.

The sports network requested privacy for Mr. Sanchez as he was recovering in a hospital. The Jets wished him a “speedy recovery.”

“Sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family,” the Jets said on social media.
