With shelters across Los Angeles operating at overcapacity, LA Animal Services is encouraging residents to give local pets a second chance this October during “Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.”
Every weekend this month, prospective pet owners can adopt dogs for $51, puppies for $75, cats for $12.50, and kittens for $25. Themed adoption weekends give each weekend its own flair: “Adopt a Shelter Dog” on Oct. 4-5, “Trick or Treat” on Oct. 11-12, “Make a Dog’s Day” on Oct. 18-19, and “Happy Halloween” on Oct. 27-28.
“October being Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is the ideal time to bring home a new furry friend,” said Annette Ramirez, Interim General Manager for LA Animal Services. “Our six Centers across LA City are filled with incredible pets in all shapes and sizes that are ready for their new families.”
Pets adopted through the program come ready for their new homes: spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 in follow-up veterinary care during the first two weeks. Dogs are even eligible for free training classes at the People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills through Paws for Life K9 Rescue.
For those hoping to meet their future companion, the full list of animals available to adopt or foster is available online. From energetic puppies to calm adult cats, there’s a furry friend ready to bring a little more joy into a Los Angeles home this fall.
