The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced public viewing and funeral plans in Utah for Russell M. Nelson.
At 101, Nelson was the church’s oldest president when he died of natural causes at his home in Salt Lake City on Sept. 27.
Members of the public of all ages are invited to attend a viewing on Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MDT at the Conference Center within Temple Square in Salt Lake City.
Nelson’s funeral is set for noon Tuesday at Conference Center. Tickets are required to attend the funeral, which is limited to attendees ages 8 and older.
Before the viewing and funeral, the Latter-day Saints semiannual general conference will go on as scheduled Saturday and Sunday in Salt Lake City.
A special tribute to Nelson was held on Wednesday. Video of the event can be viewed on the church’s YouTube page.
Latter-day Saints expected to name new president after funeral
Nelson became the Latter-day Saints president in January 2018 after the death of Thomas S. Monson.
Dallin H. Oaks, the next longest-tenured member of the governing Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, is expected to be named as Nelson’s successor at some point after the funeral.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, informally known as the Mormon or LDS church, serves nearly 450,000 members in Arizona with six temples, including three in metro Phoenix. Plans are underway to build others in Yuma, Queen Creek and Flagstaff.
