If you want the best taco in the United States and you live in Southern California, you may not have to travel very far.
Yelp announced its Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025 on Thursday, and topping the list of best-tasting tacos was Birrieria Familia Castro on the 6100 block of Vineland Avenue in Los Angeles’ North Hollywood neighborhood.
“A closely guarded family recipe for birria earns this ‘small, humble’ hotspot in LA’s San Fernando Valley the #1 ranking for 2025,” the Yelp article stated.
“Our birria is a family tradition passed down from my grandmother, who learned it from her mother,” Anthony Castro, who owns the restaurant with his mom and dad, Gema and José Castro, told the popular business rating platform.
With 45 of the top 100 taco places on Yelp’s list, nearly everyone in California can enjoy a great taco. Roundhouse Deli in Roseville, Holbox in Los Angeles, Niko’s Tacos in Roseville and Mariscos El Chito in Los Angeles were also listed among the top 10 in the U.S.
Texas, Arizona, and Hawaii followed California for the highest number of taco places on the list. All Top 100 Taco Spots of 2025 can be found in the article on Yelp.com.
While birria tacos remain extremely popular, Yelp said the “bat-shaped” vampiro tacos, described as a popular street food from Sinaloa, Mexico, are also an emerging favorite.
Vampiro tacos can be found at Birrieria Familia Castro (#1), Mariscos El Chito (#10) and Tacos El Vampiro (#40) in Sylmar. The now trendy tacos “may soon start making their way across the country,” Yelp said.
