EXCLUSIVE: John Kim (Amazon’s Cruel Intentions) has joined K-pop thriller Perfect Girl, alongside Arden Cho, Jeon Somi and Adeline Rudolph.

Currently in pre-production in Thailand, the former BlackList script has been described as “Scream meets Black Swan” and charts the story of a brand-new K-Pop super group preparing for their debut. “With only four spots available in the band and the final cut a week away, the competition is off the charts. When a talented and mysterious new girl is introduced at the last minute, things start to get strange — girls are being hunted and attacked one by one, but who is responsible for the carnage, and more importantly…who will make the final cut?” John Kim will play Daniel, the boyfriend of one of the group members.

Written by Lynn Q. Yu, the film will be directed by Hong Won-ki (Goedam), founder of leading Korean production company Zanybros, and produced by Badlands, John Wick outfit Thunder Road, and Cho.

It will also feature six original tracks “blending the worlds of music and film.” No word yet whether Jeon Somi or actress and singer Cho will contribute to the soundtrack.

Upgrade is handling international sales, with CAA Media Finance representing domestic rights. Sales will continue at the AFM. Additional casting is being locked in now. Kim recently wrapped production on the Amazon MGM Studios film Voltron, where he will co-star alongside Henry Cavill, Sterling K. Brown, and Rita Ora. Based on the iconic mecha animated series, the film follows five young pilots in a battalion called the Robot Lions, who operate powerful vehicles that combine to form Voltron, a colossal mega-robot, as they face off against formidable forces. Most recently, he starred as Blaise Powell in Prime Video’s Cruel Intentions reimagining. Previous credits include The Last Thing He Told Me, 9-1-1, The Librarians, Purple Hearts and The Little Things.

He is repped by Echo Lake Entertainment, Buchwald, CBM Management and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
