PHOENIX — American Airlines wants to help Arizona travelers explore the nature and sights up north next year.

The airline announced Wednesday that it will be adding a new nonstop service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska.

American Airlines said the service will be seasonal and run from May 21, 2026, through Sept. 8, 2026.

“As evident by the new Anchorage service, we’re continuing to add nonstop service from PHX to exciting destinations our customers are wanting to visit and enjoy,” Vice President of American’s PHX Hub Sophia Ortiz-Phillis said in the announcement. “With more than 105 destinations from PHX, this expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to grow with our customers while serving them with our warm hospitality as they travel for work, fun or (to) connect with loved ones while experiencing the diverse destinations we offer from Sky Harbor.”

When will the American Airlines flights to Anchorage be?

Flights to Anchorage will be on an Airbus A321neo aircraft and feature 20 first class seats.

The trip from Phoenix to the Alaskan city will depart at 8:35 p.m. and arrive at 1:29 a.m. the next day.

Meanwhile, trips from Anchorage back to Phoenix will depart at 11:55 p.m. and arrive at 6:24 a.m. the next day.

“We are thrilled to see American Airlines restore nonstop service to Anchorage, which will provide Phoenicians even more options for exploring Alaska’s natural beauty as well as Alaskan residents the chance to explore the Southwest,” Aviation Director Chad Makovsky said.  “This announcement further highlights American’s continued partnership with Phoenix, their confidence in our market and their commitment to providing our passengers with greater connectivity and convenience.”

Sky Harbor will become the third airport to have daily American flights to Anchorage. Currently, the airline has two flights daily from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and one flight daily from Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD) in summer.

Arizonans will be able to book flights to Anchorage through American Airline’s website and mobile app on Oct. 6.
