PHOENIX – Search and rescue operations have concluded with no additional deaths in the wake of devastating flooding in and around Globe, but cleanup efforts continue, officials announced Wednesday.

Three deaths were confirmed Saturday after about 2.5 inches of rain fell in the Globe area over 24 hours, flooding creeks and roadways.

An Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management incident management team is overseeing the multi-agency flood recovery operations.

The search and rescue effort, which started on Saturday, consisted of six teams with cadaver dogs and the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s drone unit. They have been released after scouring the impacted areas but remain on standby, officials said.

With search and rescue efforts finished, what’s next?

While the search and rescue efforts are completed, crews are still working to clear area streets of vehicles, propane tanks and tree remnants that were swept up in the floodwaters.

  • State of emergency declared in Globe, residents asked to shelter in place after severe flooding
  • Body of 38-year-old man found near submerged vehicle in Scottsdale

The deluge knocked loose about 1,000 residential-size tanks from a propane tank distributor, which wound up strewn throughout the area.

Meanwhile, residents impacted by the flooding can find resources at a Disaster Assistance Center that opened Wednesday at the Gila County Fairgrounds in Globe. Multiple agencies and organizations are offering debris removal and crisis counseling services at the site.

In addition, authorities will share information about resources during a community meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at High Desert Middle School in Globe.

On Saturday, Gov. Katie Hobbs declared a state of emergency for Gila County in the wake of the catastrophic flooding. The edict released $200,000 from the Governor’s Emergency Fund to support ongoing efforts.
