  • The RIAA gives diamond certifications (upon request) to albums that have gone platinum 10 times.
  • There are 31 diamond-certified albums by women or female-fronted bands.
  • Taylor Swift’s “1989” is the most recent album to receive the award.

Out of more than 100 diamond-certified albums across history, only 31 are by women or female-fronted bands.

The Recording Industry Association of America bestows a diamond award when an album has gone 10x platinum, meaning it has moved at least 10 million equivalent units by combining sales and streaming numbers. The artist or label must also request certification.

Ahead of the release of her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Taylor Swift submitted her catalog for updated certifications and officially earned her second diamond album — joining legendary artists like Madonna, Shania Twain, Britney Spears, Adele, Whitney Houston, The Chicks, Celine Dion, and Mariah Carey, all of whom have multiple entries on this list. (Twain and Houston have the most diamond certified-songs, with three apiece.)

Keep reading for the RIAA’s complete list of diamond-certified albums by women, in chronological order of certification date.
