The U.S. Postal Service is rolling out redesigned, technology-forward lobbies at retail locations nationwide as part of its “Delivering for America” transformation plan.

The modernized spaces aim to make mailing and package services faster, easier and more convenient for customers, while also expanding access to government services.

Upgrades include:

  • 24/7 smart lockers — Customers can receive packages directly to secure lockers via Click-N-Ship and retrieve them any time.
  • Enhanced self-service kiosks — New kiosks allow customers to weigh items, print labels, purchase supplies and mail packages, cutting wait times by up to 40%.
  • Rapid Drop mobile app — The app stores prepaid shipping labels, tracks packages, finds nearby post offices, initiates self-service acceptance and more.
  • Digital information displays — Dynamic signage helps guide customers through services.
  • Streamlined layouts — Redesigned spaces improve traffic flow and make supplies easier to locate.
  • Government services — Some lobbies now serve as hubs for tasks such as passports, fingerprinting and identity verification.

Tracy Raymond, the Postal Service’s director of retail operations, said customer feedback shaped the redesigns.

“Modernizing our retail spaces is about meeting customers where they are today,” Raymond said. “People expect speed, clarity, and technology-driven convenience — and that’s what our new lobbies deliver, while still offering the trusted, in-person attention that defines the Postal Service.”

The Postal Service has installed enhanced kiosks at 2,600 locations and smart lockers at 700 sites. Complete renovations with the full suite of upgrades, including new sorting and delivery centers, are already in place in cities from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Los Angeles.

The first phase of the retail modernization is scheduled to wrap up by the end of October, with a second phase set to expand upgrades to more locations in fiscal year 2026.
