UTA Taps Apple And Disney Vet Judy Schwab As Chief People Officer

Judy Schwab, a pedigreed exec with more than two decades of experience at companies like Apple and Disney, has been hired as UTA‘s Chief People Officer.

She had most recently been SVP, Head of People at Venu Sports, the joint streaming venture backed by Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery. Venu was aiming to launch last year, but shuttered prior to its debut due to an antitrust lawsuit by pay-TV operator Fubo.

Prior to Venu, Schwab was an HR exec at Apple, supporting the company’s services division (notably Apple TV+ along with sports, video, and music) and leading global talent programs. At Disney, she was part of the executive team that launched Disney+, leading the People function as the streaming service expanded globally and guiding employees through that period of evolution. Over the course of Schwab’s career, she has steered employees through complex M&A transactions, IPOs, and large-scale transformations.

“Judy’s exceptional track record in building high-performing teams and leading people and culture made her the ideal person for this role,” UTA CEO David Kramer said. “Her leadership, insight and expertise will be instrumental as we continue to invest in UTA’s talent for our next phase of growth.”

There has arguably never been a more challenging time to be in a top HR role at a media or entertainment company. The rise of streaming, along with social media and AI, has amplified pressure on legacy businesses and induced consolidation as traditional players chase the scale and clout of tech companies like Netflix and YouTube. Combined with the impact of the 2023 strikes and Covid, the contraction of the industry has caused thousands of job losses, even at tech giants like Amazon and Google.
