A Long Beach man died of his injuries a month after a traffic collision, and it’s possible criminal charges could result from the man’s death.

Marcos Duarte-Gonzalez was struck the afternoon of March 30 while walking in a crosswalk near Cedar Avenue and Anaheim Street, the Long Beach Police Department said in a news release.

He then “succumbed to his injuries on April 29, 2025, from upper body injuries received from the traffic collision,” Officer Eric Stachura told KTLA.

Duarte-Gonzalez was initially conscious and able to speak with police, making it difficult to quickly determine that his death was directly tied to the crash.

Information from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, however, allowed police to later classify it as a traffic fatality.

The driver of the Chevrolet sedan remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

While the “contributing factors” of the crash remain under investigation, criminal charges are possible, and the case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Dougherty at 562-570-7355.

To provide information anonymously, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or visit LACrimeStoppers.org,
