Ohio’s Senate race leads all midterm-elections contests in advertising spending so far this year, drawing nearly $200 million, according to a Washington Post analysis of data from the ad tracking firm AdImpact.
Democrat Sherrod Brown is the highest spender in the U.S. Senate race in Ohio, accounting for $37.5 million of the total. One Nation, a nonprofit organization aligned with Senate Republicans, has spent nearly as much as Brown in the race.
The group is also among the top spenders across all races and has spent millions of dollars on ads in nine other races, including competitive races in Georgia, Iowa, Maine and Alaska.
The Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC that supports Republican Senate candidates, has spent more than any other advertiser, $114 million, most prominently in the races in North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, Maine and Iowa.
Texas’s Senate race has garnered $140 million in advertising. James Talarico has spent the most on ads in the race, totaling $50 million. Two PACs supporting Republican Ken Paxton, and MAGA Inc.,President Donald Trump’s super PAC, have also spent large sums.
Maine’s Senate and Ohio’s gubernatorial contests are also in the top-spend races.
