Lupin writer George Kay is writing The Case, a Swedish crime drama, for Netflix.

The five-episode series will star Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson as lead investigator Thomas and ex-detective Alfred, Thomas’ estranged father, respectively. Additional cast includes Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, Henrik Norlén, Lisette T. Pagler, Magnus Krepper, Irina Björklund, Anders Mossling and Anna Maria Käll.

Kristoffer Nyholm is directing the five-part series, which Kay has created and written. B-Reel Films and Observatory Pictures area making it in association with All3Media’s New Pictures. Production recently wrapped in Stockholm, Sweden. Netflix has global rights and plans to launch it in 2026.

Here’s the story, per the logline: “As endless summer takes its hold over Stockholm, a different kind of darkness sets in. Clean cut, highly regarded lead investigator Thomas Berg has a serial killer on his hands. With the brutal murderer targeting his police colleagues, Thomas makes a desperate gamble, turning to a once well-regarded but now out of favour, misanthropic ex-detective for help. His estranged father, Alfred. If they’re to stand any chance of protecting their fellow police officers, they must put their differences aside and find a way to work together. Only then will they catch one of the worst killers in Sweden’s history.”

Exec producers on the show are Kay, Nyholm, Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford, with Johannes Åhlund and Ulf Synnerholm the producers for B-Reel. Aron Levander oversaw the Swedish adaptation of Kay’s scripts and he wrote additional episodes along with Emilie Robson.

“I’m thrilled to be working on The Case with the Nordic Netflix team, New Pictures and B-Reel Films – the best possible partners in crime,” said Kay. “They have assembled a wonderful cast and crew, all under the leadership of director Kristoffer Nyholm. The Case is part father-son love story, part criminal thriller. A series that brings darkness… even to the endless Stockholm summer.”

Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, Vice President of Nordic Content at Netflix, added: “George Kay has an extraordinary gift for crafting suspenseful, character-driven stories that captivate audiences worldwide. We’re thrilled to collaborate with him, Kristoffer Nyholm and to reunite with B-Reel Films on this bold new take on Swedish crime.”

Kay’s French crime drama series Lupin is among Netflix’s highest-profile returning shows. Filming on a fourth season of the show wrapped this month.
