Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl 60 halftime show, Apple Music announced during halftime of “Sunday Night Football.”

Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was the third-most-played artist on Spotify in 2024, according to the music streamer. A global superstar, Bad Bunny has been dubbed the “King of Latin Trap” for his Spanish-language raps.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” Bad Bunny said in a statement.

He added: “This is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

Bad Bunny’s most recent album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” (“I Should Have Taken More Photos”), debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 when it was released in January. It also debuted at the top of the U.S. streaming chart.

Bad Bunny performed 30 shows during a three-month residency in San Juan this year, helping boost tourism in Puerto Rico during the island’s hurricane season.

“What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring,” Roc Nation CEO Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter said in a statement. “We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”

Bad Bunny has also branched out of music in recent years.

He wrestled at WWE’s WrestleMania in 2021, and in 2023 he hosted “Saturday Night Live.” He also had a supporting role this year in the film “Caught Stealing.”

Super Bowl 60 will take place Feb. 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, home of the San Francisco 49ers. The game will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

The most recent Super Bowl halftime show was headlined by Kendrick Lamar, who was the first rapper to be the solo headliner. Lamar’s performance drew 133.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched halftime show of all time.
